Our expert guide will walk you through the lively Cannaregio neighborhood as it stands today and together you will explore the life and history of the first Jewish ghetto in the world. Declared in 1516, by the government of the Venetian Republic, as the only area where Jews could live, this vibrant community houses five synagogues, which are still central to Jewish life in the city. See the Campo del Ghetto and learn how the Jewish community was forbidden from building outside their district, resulting in unusually high buildings and then wander past gargoyles guarding the gorgeous Bridge of Spires as gondolas float quietly beneath you on the Cannaregio canal.
