We begin the tour on the famous, Royal Mile, where your local guide will give you an introduction, explaining who the Jacobites were.
Now, the official residence of the Queen in Scotland, during the Jacobite Rebellion, after the Jacobites took Edinburgh, it was here that Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed. In Outlander, Jamie and Claire live in this beautiful palace for five weeks as guests of the Prince.
Whilst admiring the Church, built in 1688, in the Dutch style that was popular at the time, your guide will walk you through the history of the Glorious Revolution.
In season three of Outlander, Claire moves back in time again and is transported to Edinburgh, where after twenty years apart she is finally reunited with Jamie. It is through Bakehouse close (called Carfax close in the program) that she walks, and you can even see the steps here that lead to the Print Shop, where inside, she finally finds Jamie.
After learning all about the Jacobite cause, you will arrive at Tweeddale Court. In season three this is used as the 18th Century marketplace, and it is where Claire is reunited with Fergus.
We continue our exploration of Scotland's Jacobite history, arriving at the beautiful St. Giles Cathedral. Built during the 14th Century, the Church is closely associated with many events and figures in Scottish history, including John Knox. See the Old Toolbooth Prison, which is referenced throughout the Outlander series.
See the Scott Monument, the world's largest monument dedicated to an author. Sir Walter Scott, is one of the most important figures for modern day Scotland, portraying the Jacobites as heroes, and changing the way people viewed the highlanders.
