Hamburg, nestled where the river Elbe meets the North Sea, is Germany’s second city and one of the largest and busiest ports in the world. From your ship’s port in Kiel you will drive to Hamburg where your own private, English-speaking guide will meet you for a private, 2-hour tour of the city. You will be taken straight to the historic heart of Hamburg to see the stunning Town Hall, the St Nikolai Church (still a burnt out shell because of allied bombings in WW2), the Trost Bridge in the heart of the Medieval City, the UNESCO listed Speicherstadt, the modern architectural splendour of the Elbphilharmonie and more. You will then have 1-hour of free time to explore more of the city on your own before driving back to Kiel. This tour includes a private bus transfer to and from Hamburg from Kiel (circa 2 hours each way) and will drop you back at your ship at the end.
You will be met directly at your cruise ship and transferred in a private vehicle to Hamburg. The journey takes roughly 2 hours.
Upon arrival in Hamburg you will be met by your own private English-speaking guide for a guided tour of the city centre. Our first stop is Hamburg’s Old Town Square, with it’s stunning, sky-scraping, neo-renaissance Town Hall.
Next we witness where the Great Fire of 1842 started on and see Hamburg’s iconic ‘Kontor' buildings.
Moving on we stop to admire one of the finest examples of north German, neo-gothic architecture, and witness the devastation caused by Allied bombing raids in WWII.
As we continue into the heart of the medieval city we cross one of Hamburg’s myriad canals using the oldest bridge in the city.
Next we explore the city’s first UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site and the largest warehouse district in the world.
We then finish the guided tour under the eaves of Hamburg’s state-of-the-art concert hall – a true modern architectural gem and one of the most acoustically advanced concert halls on the planet.
You will then have approximately 1 hour of free time to explore Hamburg’s city centre further on your own. Your local guide will be happy to provide tips to aid you in your explorations.
You will then be driven back to Kiel and dropped off directly at your cruise ship.
This tour starts and ends directly at your cruise ship.
